Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience to try aerial?
No experience needed! Our drop-in classes (Intro to Aerial Fabric, Intro to Lyra, and Aerial Conditioning) are designed as a welcoming first step for total beginners.
What’s the minimum age?
Students must be at least 15 years old to join our aerial program.
What should I wear?
Wear tight-fitting athletic or dance wear. Please avoid shorts and make sure your armpits, belly, and groin are fully covered, since loose or exposed skin in these areas isn’t just a modesty issue, it can cause fabric burn during wraps and drops. Class is done barefoot.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel a class, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before class will still be charged.
Am I too old to start?
Not at all. We have students across a wide range of ages and our progressive curriculum meets you wherever you’re starting from.
How strong do I need to be?
There’s no strength prerequisite to start. Aerial naturally builds strength over time; our beginner classes are built for exactly that.
Is aerial safe?
All physical activity contains the risk of injury, including aerial dance at Hunter. All classes are taught by trained instructors with safety-first instruction, proper spotting, and equipment checks, and crash mats are set below each rig point. As with any physical activity, following your instructor’s guidance and wearing the right attire (see above) matters.
How many students are in class?
Aerial classes at Hunter Dance Center are small, with a 10-12 student maximum per certified instructor, depending on the class and studio.
What happens if I miss a class?
- Classes are non-refundable, but classes “early cancelled” up to 10 hours in advance will be credited to your account. “Late cancellations” (less than 10 hours in advance) or missed classes cannot be credited or rescheduled.
- Aerial Series: these are closed sessions, so missed classes are non-refundable and cannot be credited, though they’re eligible for specific make-up options if “early cancelled” up to 10 hours in advance.
- Class Cards: the 10-class card is non-refundable and non-transferable, with a strict 90-day expiration from the date of purchase.
